The Canon XF305 Professional Camcorder features 50Mbps MPEG-2 4:2:2 recording to Compact Flash (CF) cards for unsurpassed image quality and efficient, robust workflow at an affordable price. It is ideally suited to match the requirements of electronic newsgathering (ENG) crews, independent filmmakers, documentary producers, event videographers and military agencies.

Utilizing file-based MPEG-2 compression with an MXF File Wrapper ensures the widest compatibility with existing industry infrastructure, metadata and non-linear editing (NLE) systems. And 4:2:2 color sampling provides ultra-fine transitions in tone and color for maintaining the highest quality image for use in advanced post production.

A newly developed Genuine Canon 18x HD L-Series lens along with three Canon native 1920 x 1080 CMOS Image Sensors delivers pristine image quality.

Incorporating industry-standard HD-SDI output, genlock input and SMPTE time code input/output terminals makes the Canon XF305 perfectly matched for live application and multi-camera shooting.

The XF305 also offers multiple recording bit rates, resolutions and variable frame rates to expand your creative flexibility, and allow you to work in virtually any production environment. CANON XF305 FEATURES

• Refined ergonomics maximizes shooting comfort and usability. Users will find it well balanced with the handgrip closer to the optical access near the camera’s center of gravity thereby reducing are fatigue. While using LCD screen, the rubber EVF can be used as a cheek pad providing stable 3-point contact when hand holding the XF305.

• MPEG-2 4:2:2 with up to 50Mbps - Highly versatile and reliable MPEG-2 Long-GOP. 4:2:2 color sampling provides twice the color resolution of 4:2:0 for a more robust, accurate color detail allowing for greater post production precision. Full 1920 x 1080 at a constant bit rate of 50Mbps provides the bandwidth needed to capture superior resolution and color in spectacular detail.

• DUAL CF Memory Card Slots - Records directly to two removable Compact Flash (CF) memory cards. The camcorder
features two CF card slots and offers versatile recording functions including relay recording, hot swapping, file copy and backup, and pre-record. CF memory cards make it fast and easy to transfer video footage & edit.

• HD-SDI Output – BNC Connector provides an uncompressed, 1.485 Gbps signal at 1920 x 1080 resolution with
embedded audio and time code.

• Genlock – BNC connector input enables synchronization of a multi-camera, live switched production
environment in the studio or on location.

• Timecode In/Out – SMPTE time code can be shared with an external device (such as a DAT recorder) or from
camera to camera.

• Genuine Canon 18x HD Video Lens with mechanical stops & markings for both zoom & focus –

• In 35mm equivalents, the zoom range is 29.3mm to 527.4mm, which is wider at the wide end than previous Canon models and most other competitively priced cameras.

Mechanical stops also allow for compatibility with 3rd party remote controllers that require end stops in order to calibrate themselves.

• Standard IS MODE – compensates for a lower degree of camera shake, such as when shooting while remaining stationary and is suitable for shooting natural looking scenes

• Powered IS MODE – improves vibration suppression at telephoto focal lengths where camera shake is magnified

• Dynamic IS MODE – stabilizes the image when walking and shooting handheld

• The XF305 cameras offers a full range of selectable frame rates:

24p (23.976) Frame Rate - 24p matches the frame rate of a traditional film camera giving the same cadence and temporal motion needed for a "film look."

30p (29.97) Frame Rate - 30p is the ideal frame rate for video viewed on the Internet. It is also an excellent choice for frame grabbing during playback.

60p (59.94) Frame Rate (Available in 720p Mode Only) - In addition to the standard interlaced frame rate of 60i, these cameras are able to capture at 60p. 60p is rapidly becoming the standard for fast-action sports.

Optional 25p/50i/50p Frame Rate Upgrade - In addition to the native NTSC 24p/30p/60i/60p frame rates, the XF305 can be upgraded to record in PAL frame rates of 25p/50i/50p, for added versatility. This optional upgrade must be performed by a Canon Factory Service Center at an additional cost.

• Slow and Fast Motion Modes allow the XF305 to record a different frame rate than the playback frame rate, resulting in either a fast or slow motion effect during playback. Since the camera is recording real frames and modifying the playback rate, there is no quality loss and maximum image quality is maintained. In 1080 mode, fast motion is supported up to 2.5x the normal rate and as slow as 1/2.5x. In 720 mode, fast motion is supported up to 5x the normal rate and as slow as 1/1.25x.

• Scan Reverse - The new firmware updates the Scan Reverse functionality of XF305 camcorder to allow for recorded images to be flipped on the horizontal axis, vertical axis, or both simultaneously to facilitate recording with 3D mirror rigs.

• Three (3) Switchable Built-In Durable Glass ND Filters, ¼, 1/16, and 1/64 – allows you to keep the aperture within an appropriate range when recording in bright surroundings. Advantages of glass ND filters, they withstand the hottest daylight shooting conditions without any warping.

• 6-Blade Metal Iris - creates smooth and professional looking background images. Durable metal iris increases the camera’s heat tolerance under harsh conditions such as direct sunlight or shooting into the sun.

• Shutter Settable In Degrees – in addition to standard shutter speeds, the XF305 also has the option of using shutter angles to control the camera’s shutter. Many professional videographers prefer to use Shutter Angle rather than speed to insure the proper shutter speed is always selected regardless of recording frame rate.

• Five Separate Advanced Autofocus Options are available on the XF305: Normal Mode; High Speed Instant AF and Medium Instant AF; as well as Face Priority and Face Only AF. The “High Speed” and “Medium” Instant AF settings both use Canon’s renowned Instant Auto Focus technology, which triangulates the distance with an external sensor for fast, accurate focus measurement. “High Speed” adjusts the focus very rapidly, while “Medium” Instant AF uses the same technology to make the focus motion much smoother.

• BLACK & WHITE Screen &/or Viewfinder Options - Both Color LCD Screen & / or Color Eyecup Viewfinder can be switched to Black & White if desired

• 3D Assist Functions Optical Axis Shift - With optional dual camera mount, the XF305 has the ability to be paired with another XF300 or XF305 camcorder to provide true stereoscopic 3-D recording. It offers several features to assist with 3-D production including OIS Lens Shift to aid in optically aligning the two camcorders.

• Time Lapse (Interval) Recording – with interval settings from 1 second to 10 minutes you are able to record a flower opening or a full day’s events

• Variable Frame Rate Recording - A wide range of frame rates are available, from 12 to 50 fps. This gives cameramen the freedom to alter the capture rate for additional creative flexibility such as stop-frame animation, clay figure animation, etc.

• Pre Record Feature – the camera constantly buffers 3 seconds of video in memory. When you hit the trigger, recording begins along with the added 3 seconds. So you will never miss a shot by recording a few seconds too late.

• XLR Trim Adjustments for XLR 1 or XLR2 – fine tune the sensitivity of external microphone inputs with 5 adjustable trim levels• External Audio Controls include audio switching & independent audio record level controls

• Relay Recording - automatically switches video recording to the next CF memory card when the first CF memory card becomes full

• Relay Recording On/Off – to prevent capture data from automatically being recorded to the 2nd card. This allows the 2nd card to be protected from recording and used only when designated or to allow the user to only copy or backup select takes to the card.
